The Medium Is The Message
The Medium is the Message
When we take a rusty, steel chisel and carve a line into granite, it leaves a deep and lasting impression.
When we take that same rusty, steel chisel and carve a line into sand, it leaves an impression that, over some time, will disappear.
Take that same rusty, steel chisel again and carve a line into water. On this occasion, no impression is left.
In life, we are constantly being challenged by the ‘chisels’, the demands of our experiences, whether they relate to the pressures of work, family, love or society. We all face these demands, no one is exempt. The message lies not in the demand itself or how intense it is but rather who we are and how we deal with such demands. It isn’t about the chisel or how rusty it is but rather the medium the chisel is carving through.
The medium is the message.
Are we granite, sand or water?
One of the many benefits of Vedic Meditation is that it increases stability, mental clarity, creativity and stamina to adapt to demands of our experience whilst systematically removing stress impressions that have accumulated over the years. We normalise the ‘rest and digest’ system, instead of the ‘fight, flight or freeze’ reaction when dealing with demands. We literally turn the medium from granite to water.
When we have a greater capacity to adapt, we meet demands successfully and this results in waves of happiness.
The demands will always come, but instead of the medium being a bundle of stress impressions, the medium is an expression of supreme adaptation and happiness.
The medium is the message.
